Our experienced physio is skilled in applying joint mobilisation techniques to help to restore full pain free range of motion. Joint mobilisation can be applied to a range of conditions and includes spinal and peripheral joints.
Physiotherapy practice has progressed over the years and there is now a range of techniques that are available which means some can be very gentle and pain free yet still effective. Any joint treatment will also incorporate soft tissue release and exercises to do at home to maintain the results of the treatment. After a thorough in-depth assessment, your physiotherapist will discuss with you what techniques would be most effective, safe and pain-free. They will then proceed with treating your problem.
Common joint techniques include:
- Gentle Joint Mobilisations (Maitland Grade I-IV, Mulligan techniques)
- Mobility exercises (McKenzie exercises)
- Muscle energy techniques (Autogenic inhibition of muscles around the joint, an osteopathic based technique)
- Traction or distraction techniques
- Gentle and controlled joint manipulation (Maitland Grade V), which can give a joint ‘pop’ sound
